When Skylar* joined our Friends - Utah program, she was very shy and hesitant to try new things. Her professional mentor, or Friend, Jahne was patient and persistent in her support and encouragement as the two first got to know each other. But with steady support and encouragement from her mentor, Jahne, that started to change.

“I’ve always encouraged her to step out of her comfort zone,” Jahne shared. Whether it was a new snack, a new playground, or a totally new experience, Skylar began to embrace stepping out of her comfort zone with her Friend by her side.

“Skylar has recently flourished,” Jahne says. “Watching her overcome her shyness has warmed my heart and reinforced my belief that anything is possible with perseverance, grit, and time.”

Recently, Skylar took a BIG step out of her comfort zone, taking the stage in her school’s production of The Lion King! Jahne was there to support her as Skylar performed with confidence and joy.

Skylar’s confidence didn't appear overnight — it blossomed thanks to the consistent encouragement of a caring mentor by her side.
